THE WAVE - I/III - LOOKING FOR THE BODY

It was the second summer that was about to end and he had not shown up. According to her counting method it was less than twelve days left for the circle to close with that hot sun mercilessly on her. To be completely honest, she didn’t like this season. She couldn’t stand the crowds she received every day that didn’t leave her alone for a second. She had to be extra careful with their needs and wishes. She had to take care of them, play with them but also be discreet and leave them alone to calm. But she certainly watched each one separately and tried to prevent any inconsistencies or mistakes that could become fatal. This actually sucked all of her energy. She had no time for herself till the sun had set and the things cooled off a bit. And of course, she did all of this ever since she remembered. The summers were always of great tension for her.
When he first came last June, his presence made a big impact on her. It was not his shape or his body, which she saw almost naked every day, but his voice that made him stand out. He would sing softly every time, something that she had not experienced before. He would usually come early in the morning and, while he was with her, he would not stop quietly murmuring unknown to her lyrics. It was this vocal tone that showed a peaceful and calm person that made her feel calm as well. And she always took care of him a little bit more and chose to play with her waves more and, as time went by, she believed that he was singing only for her. And the first summer passed and she didn’t even notice it. The minute he arrived she let go of her consistency and became extra carefree. Small children had been in danger several times due to her negligence but she would restore the order the very last minute.

When he didn’t show up last year, she was really upset but she hoped he would show up the following summer. But now that this summer was about to end, she felt a sting, she felt that she should do something, go out and find him. She wanted to hear him again. She wanted that refreshing, after so many centuries, presence of his. She wanted to play and admit that, oh yes, she was thinking about him and she was in love. But the question was where would she, the sea herself, begin the searching from?
